چکیده

Vasodepressor syncope is characterized hemodynamically by a sudden fall in total peripheral resistance with little associated change in cardiac output. The failure of the cardiac output to compensate for the fall in peripheral resistance is a striking feature of the fainting reaction. Possible explanations for this phenomenon are the presence of neurogenie myocardial inhibition or markedly limited volume of blood available to the heart. The effects of atropine injections, inflation of antigravity suit, negative pressure breathing, and albumin infusions on the syncopal reaction were studied. Results favor the causative role of limited venous inflow in the cardiac output response.

Vasodepressor syncope.

Vasodepressor syncope is the fulminant expression of the behavioral disorder "Blood-Injury Phobia". Vasodepressor syncope or the "common faint" is characterized by a diphasic autonomic hyperactivity that begins with anxiety and leads to a transient loss of consciousness. Recognition of the behavioral etiology of this disorder suggests the possibility of prevention through psychotherapy. Underst...

The economic burden of unrecognized vasodepressor syncope.

BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to describe the cost of prior diagnostic evaluation in patients referred for evaluation of syncope whose history was typical of vasodepressor syncope. METHODS AND RESULTS Thirty consecutive patients who were referred for evaluation of syncope of undetermined origin and whose history was highly suggestive of vasodepressor syncope participated in this ...

Neurohumoral antecedents of vasodepressor reactions.

Vasodepressor (vasovagal) syncope, the most common cause of acute loss of consciousness, can occur in otherwise vigorously healthy people during exposure to stimuli decreasing cardiac filling. Antecedent physiological or neuroendocrine conditions for this dramatic syndrome are poorly understood. This study compared neurocirculatory responses to non-hypotensive lower body negative pressure (LBNP...

Clinical and electroencephalographic features of carotid sinus syncope induced by internal carotid artery angioplasty.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Carotid sinus syncope may occur acutely during internal carotid artery angioplasty (CA). We performed this study to investigate the clinical, electroencephalographic (EEG), and hemodynamic features of carotid sinus syncope induced by CA. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between 1992 and 2003, clinical, EEG, and cardiovascular monitoring was performed in 359 consecutive patients un...

Benefits of fludrocortisone in the treatment of symptomatic vasodepressor carotid sinus syndrome.

OBJECTIVE To assess treatment with fludrocortisone in vasodepressor carotid sinus syndrome. PATIENTS AND METHODS Eleven patients, mean (SD) age 83 (5) years, with daily dizzy episodes and a median of five (range two to 20) syncopal episodes over a median of one year were studied. All had vasodepressor carotid sinus syndrome (> 50 mm Hg fall in systolic blood pressure during carotid sinus mass...
